Dr. Gila Russo Zimet - Artist, Curator & Researcher

My works function as an emotional excavation site where the boundaries of home,

body, and memory are re-examined. They exist at the seam between public and historical space

and the private psychological shelter. Through acts , I merge private and collective memories into an encoded internal map.

The process of deconstruction and reconstruction stems from a deep belief in the influential power

of making and that memory is mutable. The medium serves me whether sculpture, photography,

or painting ,collages , prints. In all of them, I seek to weave a space of presence and healing. The act itself during the

working process is a process of holding reality, mending fractures, transformation of memory,

and emptying out. Personal, familial, and historical memories take on a material form and

manage to tell, during the process, what I could not yet put into words.
